![]() And what better location than the same place where the real Chiron was first tested – Ehra Lessien proving ground in Germany – a unique facility built to handle speed. It’s a fascinating example of the LEGO Technic building system in action and its potential for creative reinvention.”īuilding a one of a kind LEGO Technic life-size car is one part of the task. Our Technic designers and the engineers from the Kladno factory in the Czech Republic, the place which also builds the impressive models for LEGO Stores and LEGOLAND parks, have done an amazing job both at recreating the Chiron’s iconic shapes and making it possible to drive this model. For over 40 years, LEGO Technic has allowed fans of all ages to test their creativity with a building system that challenges them to go beyond just creating new designs, to also engineering new functions. “This life-size model is a first of its kind in so many ways and with it, we wanted to push the boundaries of our own imagination. Lena Dixen, Senior Vice President of Product and Marketing at the LEGO Group said: Packed with 2,304 motors and 4,032 LEGO Technic gear wheels, the engine of this 1.5 tonnes car is generating 5.3 horse power and an estimated torque of 92 Nm. The model is the first large scale movable construction developed using over 1,000,000 LEGO Technic elements and powered exclusively using motors from the LEGO Power Function platform. "The history starts when DC was doing their 'We Can Be Heroes' activities and I had been invited by DC to do a piece of work for project that they could auction off in one of their fundraisers, so I had done a piece with them for that and we just started talking about this whole exhibition and it became a big project." After piecing together such a huge piece, Sawaya said simply, "These hands are sore." Look for his creation at the launch of The Art of the Brick: DC Comics in Sydney in November, and keep checking IGN for more details on the touring exhibition.Perfectly recreating the organic design lines of the world’s fastest production car – the iconic Bugatti Chiron – the LEGO Technic life-size model pushes the boundaries of what LEGO builders imagined was possible to build in LEGO elements. It made sense to turn to DC Comics with their superheroes and supervillains for my project. So I started challenging myself and using the brick as something for art, doing larger pieces, and eventually, I left the law firm to become a full-time artist and just focus on creating art out of LEGO." As for how he hooked up with DC for this project, he said, "I wanted to do an exhibition focusing on good and evil, really, and I kind of changed that into heroes and villains, so where does one look for that? Of course, the pages of comic books. One day, I thought about LEGO bricks from my childhood as an art medium as an art medium. I'd do drawing or painting, I’d sculpt out of more traditional media. "I used to practice corporate law in New York City and I'd come home at night and need some sort of creative outlet. How did Sawaya start his path to become a Master Builder? "I've been working with LEGO bricks as an art medium for almost a decade now," he said. The Batmobile will be first on display when the tour kicks off in Sydney, Australia in November. At San Diego Comic-Con 2015, Jim Lee, the world-renowned artist and co-publisher of DC Comics, drew the blueprint for the Batmobile that Sawaya later pieced together. "I've done exhibitions with LEGO bricks as an art medium before but this was a brand new opportunity to explore the art of DC and use their characters," said Sawaya. ![]() Consumer Products and DC Entertainment, will feature the world’s largest collection of DC Comics-inspired artwork made entirely of LEGO bricks. ![]() The touring exhibition, in partnership with Warner Bros. ![]()
